چکیده
The Effect of Sympathetic Denervation on Cerebral C Sensitivitv • The responsiveness of cerebral blood flow to changes in arterial carbon dioxide tension was determined in six monkeys following bilateral superior cervical ganglionectomy. Experiments were conducted 10 to 14 days following the removal of both ganglions using phencyclidine hydrochloride as the anesthetic agent. Following the initial acute experiments, the animals were placed in a sealed environmental chamber for five days at an inspired carbon dioxide level of 6%. The responsiveness to carbon dioxide was repeated following the chronic exposure to carbon dioxide. The animal was killed immediately and the brain removed. The major vessels of the circle of Willis were examined histochemically for the presence of sympathetic nerve fibers. The results of the study demonstrated that: (1) autoregulation was still present, (2) acute exposure to increased levels of carbon dioxide increased flow, and (3) some adaptation of flow occurred following a chronic exposure to 6% carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide sensitivity of this group of animals was found to be 0.37 cm per second mm Hg' as compared to a value of 0.94 cm per second mm Hg" for normal animals. The difference in these two values was significant. It is concluded that the sympathetic nervous system is necessary for the normal responsiveness to changes in arterial carbon dioxide. Additional

The chronic influence of sympathetic nerves on cerebral vessels is age-related.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chronic sympathetic denervation on cerebral vessels of the spontaneously hypertensive rat when superior cervical ganglionectomy was performed in adulthood. In a previous study, we have demonstrated increased protein transfer across the cerebral vessels of the chronically denervated hemisphere when superior cervical ganglionectomy was perf...
متن کاملRegional cerebral blood flow during hypotension in normotensive and stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats: effect of sympathetic denervation.
This study was performed to determine whether, in hypertensive and normotensive rats, chronic sympathetic denervation impairs cerebral vasodilator responses during hypotension, and to determine whether there are regional differences in the autoregulatory response of brain vessels during hypotension. The superior cervical ganglion was removed on one side in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensiv...
متن کاملSympathetic innervation of cerebral arteries: prejunctional supersensitivity to norepinephrine after sympathectomy or cocaine treatment.
The inactivation of the norepinephrine transmitter in the region of the adrenergic receptor is one important function of the sympathetic nerve terminals innervating blood vessels. This capacity was tested on isolated cat's middle cerebral artery (MCA) by recordings of the contractile response induced by norepinephrine at various stages after sympathectomy (excision of the superior cervical gang...

Background: Sympathetic complex of over-activation kidneys is one of the main causes of primary hypertension (HTN). We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of sympathectomy using 5Fr mariner catheter ablation on patients with refractory hypertension. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, patients who received three or more anti-hypertensive medications with 160mmHg systolic blood pressur...
متن کاملCerebral autoregulation in young spontaneously hypertensive rats. Effect of sympathetic denervation.
Autoregulation of cerebral blood flow was studied with the hydrogen clearance method during development of hypertension in young spontaneously hypertensive rats. To examine the influence of sympathetic nerves on autoregulatory range, the unilateral superior cervical ganglion was removed 2 hours or 2 or 5 weeks before the study. Wall-to-lumen ratio of cerebral arteries was determined with freeze...
